Active Manningham in collaboration with Manningham Council hosted its second Pride Swim & Gym Night on Sunday 2 February 2025, at Aquarena, bringing together the LGBTQIA+ community and allies for an unforgettable evening of fitness, fun, and celebration.
Building on the success of last year, the event was bigger and better, featuring drag queens, fitness classes, smoothie-making bikes, a DJ and a classic sausage sizzle. Manningham Youth Services also joined the celebration, offering craft activities where kids created their own colorful artwork, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the night. The energy was high as families, friends, and first-time visitors joined in the festivities.
Kirra, who worked both years, shared her experience saying, “I’ve been fortunate to work at Pride Night both years, first as a lifeguard in 2024 and this year at reception.
This year, I had the privilege of welcoming families at reception. Seeing the smiles on kids’ faces and the genuine excitement of parents, many of whom had not known about the event before, was incredibly rewarding. It was heartwarming to hear their enthusiasm as they realised that Aquarena’s usual fun was taken to a whole new level with drag queens, zumba and aqua classes, smoothie-making bikes, a DJ, and, of course, a good sausage sizzle.
There was something for everyone and it was an incredibly meaningful event not only to celebrate pride and our lgbtq+ community but also to socialise and have fun where everyone felt welcome.
I’m incredibly proud to be part of a workplace that celebrates our beautiful community and will continue to look forward to coming events like these!“
The event concluded with a sweet surprise, as everyone received rainbow ice-creams. The night was a powerful reminder of Aquarena’s commitment to fostering a space where everyone belongs. Events like this not only celebrate diversity but also create lasting memories for our community.
