Seniors Month is returning this October, and Active Manningham is proud to be part of a packed calendar of activities designed to support healthy ageing, wellbeing and social connection.
Older adults, carers and family members are encouraged to explore Manningham Council’s Seniors Month Local Activity Guide, which features more than 60 affordable and enjoyable activities across the municipality.
As part of the program, Active Manningham will be hosting a range of free events kicking off with our Community Day at Mullum Mullum Stadium on Wednesday 7 October.
Enjoy a morning tea from 10:30am, followed by health and wellbeing stalls and free assessments from 11 am. Attend an informative Falls Prevention and Nutrition Seminar and gain practical tips to support healthy, active ageing. Registrations essential.
We’ll also be hosting come and try momentum combo sessions throughout the month, and a Seated Exercise and Nutrition Seminar on Thursday 15 October.
The Doncaster Dolphins Masters Swimming Club will be holding 3 free trial swims. While our outdoor pool is being renovated, these will be taking place at the Eltham Leisure Centre.
Assistant coach Rod Clarke (pictured) is a passionate advocate for staying active later in life.
He recently broke the state and national record for the 50m backstroke short course at the Australian Masters Nationals in Brisbane.
“It’s never too late,” Rod said. “We’ve got members ranging from their 20s to their 90s. Some are swimming for fitness, some compete and some just enjoy being part of the community.”
Whether you’re looking to improve your fitness, meet new people or learn more about healthy ageing, there’s something for everyone during Seniors Month.
Copies of the Seniors Month Activity Guide are available from Aquarena and Mullum Mullum Stadium, the Manningham Civic Centre, local libraries and other community venues. You can also explore the full program online at Manningham Council’s website.
