We are excited to announce our new Sensory Quiet Time, designed to provide a calm and relaxing environment for our patrons. Sensory quiet time starts Sunday 18 August 2024 and will be running for 8 weeks between 2.00pm to 3.00pm transforming our indoor pool into a sensory-friendly space.
During Sensory Quiet Time, we will:
- Keep the lights dimmed to reduce visual stimuli.
- Turn off the spa jets to minimise noise and vibration.
- Refrain from making PA announcements unless there is an emergency.
- Encourage all patrons to keep noise to a minimum.
This initiative aims to support individuals with sensory processing issues, autism, anxiety, dementia, and anyone who prefers a quieter and more tranquil pool experience. All members are welcome to enjoy the pool during this time, provided they respect the sensory-friendly environment.
Join us for Sensory Quiet Time and experience a peaceful and soothing aquatic setting. Your feedback is valuable to us during this 8-week trial period, so please let us know how we can improve your experience at reception. Thank you for helping us create an inclusive and supportive community space!
You have questions, we have answers.
Sensory quiet time is a designated period when the pool environment is modified to be more sensory-friendly, with reduced noise, dimmed lights, and no spa jets or PA announcements (unless there’s an emergency). This is intended to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere for individuals who may be sensitive to sensory stimuli.
Sensory quiet time can benefit individuals with sensory processing issues, autism, anxiety, dementia, or those who simply prefer a quieter and more relaxed environment.
This specific time was chosen based on feedback from our members and the availability of the pool. It is meant to provide a consistent and predictable period for those who need it.
Yes, all patrons are welcome to use the pool during sensory quiet time, but we ask that everyone respect the rules and keep noise to a minimum to maintain the calm environment.
There are no specific activity restrictions, but we ask that all activities be conducted quietly and respectfully. Loud games, splashing, and other noisy activities should be avoided
Yes, our staff will be available to assist and ensure that the sensory quiet time rules are followed. However, they will minimize noise and movement as much as possible.
We welcome feedback from all patrons. You can speak to a staff member at reception to provide your feedback.
Sensory quiet time is a regular part of our Sunday schedule from 2 pm-3 pm. Other pool activities and schedules will remain unchanged.
